Aussie, Aussie, Aussie…ow,ow,ow!

January 25, 2011

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, ow, ow, ow. Not quite the mantra of today’s Australia Day holiday but thought it was fitting. It might be slightly my fault because it’s 10am and I haven’t gotten out of bed yet to my breakfast of pills for MCTD but I will soon. I am just resting for the moment before I join my friends at Clovelly Beach for an Aussie Day BBQ and Triple J’s Hottest 100…a tradition I love.

Last Australia Day, I had just been diagnosed with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease and I spent the day with my folks on Coogee Beach. Low key but nice….things have come a long way for me and I just have to hope that as each year passes life continues to get easier.

I woke up this morning with a very strong pain across my back and shoulders which has been with me for three days. I’m hoping it is gone tomorrow. My right wrist keeps catching, which makes typing tricky…but I’m an Aussie Battler right? 😉

So as I head out into the January heat, I’ll don my new wide brimmed hat, I’ll lather myself in suncream and hide under the tent. I won’t join in the cricket or volley ball that is set to be played and I’ll ignore the ache across my limbs.

I will eat, drink, listen to tunes and laugh with my friends.

Any way you look at it. Life is good.
